I think that in order for this site to be successful we will definitely need to focus on what sets it apart from things like g+, hopville and facebook.

How would you define that? We, of course, have Xaq Fucking Fixx…but I could be biased.

We also have Wordpress features for our blog where you can host your own beer blog and of course ANARCHY! Tee hee.

The ability to privately discuss how the laws effect our freedom to brew is also a factor.

    What do you think?

Well, I don’t think we’ll be able to compete with the recipe creation/search/sharing tools that hopville has. Beer Calculus is formidable. That being said we might be able to co-opt it. I plan to link to recipes on Hopville and use this for more of the social/blogging aspect. Heck we could even help new brewers learn how to use Beer Calculus.

I think most people’s social needs are also met by FB and G+. If you look at what the breweries are doing, they’re moving away from their own websites and into those larger social sites. Everything seems to be going that way.

So, what do we have they nobody else does? A private means of organizing and sharing. Emphasis on PRIVATE. I suggest we foster a security culture and become a place where “things” get done. We might want to ask ourselves questions like, “If this server was seized tomorrow, what kind of information could someone get from it? What do we want to say in public and what do we want to say in private? How do we know someone is ‘cool’?”

Absolutely, I have used their beer calculus app. We won’t be able to have better reviews than BeerAdvocate or RateBeer, and will link to those as well.
