Purpose

The reputation system is designed to give people a means to exchange information about the business dealings they’ve had with other people on this site.  It’s not bulletproof, but it should help prevent fraud and provide some level of confidence for people entering into arrangements.

Ground Rules

1. The details of interactions between individuals should be written in such a way as to NOT indicate the violation of any laws.  Posts that violate this rule may be censored.
2. Posts that do not relate to the reputation system (spam, random BS, etc.) yet are posted in an individuals reputation topic will be removed.
3. The admins of this group are not psychic, we have no way of knowing if people are telling the truth.  We assume no liability for the things stated here.

How it Works

Each member starts a topic with the name “Reputation – <Member name>”.  Other members who have had business dealings with you will post feedback about the transaction.  Inside the “GPG Keys” topic you will find the GPG keys of various members so that you can communicate securely with them via email and so that you can verify any comments they choose to sign in the Reputation group.

Problems

What happens if someone is a jackass and posts 50 comments about how much someone else sucks?

Sounds to me like that person just trashed their own reputation.  I certainly wouldn’t want to do business with them.  I’d advise everyone to limit their comments to things that are measurable, ie. “she didn’t follow through on her end of the deal” as opposed to “she’s a bad person”.  Your actions dictate how people will treat you.

What happens if someone creates 50 usernames and uses them to make it look like they got a bunch of good feedback?

If we get enough people to start using GPG keys and we begin signing each others keys we can establish a strong, unforgeable identity for individuals.

How do we know the admins aren’t going to be jackasses themselves?

You don’t.  The admins will try to be honest and fair in their dealings, but there are bound to be disagreements as to the actions they take.  Judge them accordingly.
